Erin O’Neil

Emergency

DVM |  Dr. Erin O’Neil was born in San Francisco, grew up just outside of Chicago, and received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from The University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where she was also a member of the varsity swim team. She then worked as a swim coach, a doggy daycare employee, and as a veterinary assistant in the ER and ICU of a busy emergency and specialty veterinary hospital in the Chicago suburbs for a few years before deciding to attend veterinary school. Always keen to travel, Dr. O’Neil decided to pursue her veterinary degree overseas at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. During veterinary school, she was a representative for her class in the Veterinary Student Council, a student representative for the Curriculum Innovation Team, a member of the Pathology Club, and volunteered with All4Paws (providing care for pets of homeless and vulnerably-housed residents of Edinburgh). She also enjoyed traveling all around Scotland and Europe during her free time! After graduating with distinction, Dr. O’Neil completed a rigorous one-year rotating small animal emergency, specialty and general practice internship at VCA Aurora Animal Hospital in Aurora, IL. Dr. O’Neil has loved emergency medicine since her days as an assistant, and her special interests include toxicology, CPR and resuscitation sciences, cardiology, and surgery. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. O’Neil enjoys hiking, running, swimming, biking, triathlons, seeing live theater, musical theater, and dancing performances, and spending time with her cat, Bruce Wayne.
