DVM, DACVD | Dr. Schmeitzel graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, then interned at the University of Pennsylvania. She completed a residency in dermatology at the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and was boarded by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Schmeitzel was an assistant and associate professor of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine where she developed her dermatology consultant referral practice and taught dermatology to many students, interns, and residents. She is past president of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology and served on the Education Committee of the American College of Dermatology. She is a member of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, and the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association. She has also served the Richmond community as an advocate of continuing education seminars, given hands-on experience for the Explorer scouts and has continued to teach veterinary students, interns and residents.
